BMW Owner Shoots Neighbour Dead in East Delhi Over Parking Dispute; Flees the Scene
New Delhi, April 20, 2026 — A trivial dispute over a neighborhood parking spot turned fatal in East Delhi’s Preet Vihar in the early hours of Monday morning. A 34-year-old man was shot dead in the chest by his neighbor, who reportedly lost his temper during an argument over parking a Toyota Fortuner. The accused, who owns a BMW, fled the scene immediately after firing the weapon.
The victim has been identified as Pankaj Nayyar, a resident of Noida who co-owned a garment shop in Chandni Chowk with his brother.
The Trigger: A Dispute Over a Single Parking Space
According to the Delhi Police, the tragedy occurred at the A-144 residential block in Preet Vihar. The accused, identified as Gaurav Sharma, lives in the neighborhood and runs an import-export business while managing properties in Shakarpur.
Police sources reveal that Sharma was allotted parking space for only one vehicle. On Sunday night, his BMW was already parked in the designated spot. The conflict began when Pankaj’s elder brother, Paras (43), attempted to park his Toyota Fortuner.
Initially, the situation involved a heated phone argument between Paras and Gaurav regarding the parking arrangement. Around midnight, Pankaj arrived from Noida to meet his brother, and the verbal altercation quickly escalated into a physical fight in the street.
Gunfire at Midnight
During the scuffle, Sharma allegedly pulled out a pistol and shot Pankaj directly in the chest.
The Police Control Room (PCR) received two consecutive calls at 2:22 AM and 2:26 AM reporting a violent quarrel and subsequent gunfire. Upon sustaining the gunshot wound, Pankaj was immediately rushed to the Malik Radix Health Care Hospital in nearby Nirman Vihar. However, despite the efforts, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
“The quarrel took place… over a parking dispute between Pankaj Nayyar and his brother Paras on one side, and Gaurav Sharma on the other,” the police confirmed in an official statement.
Accused Absconding, Murder Case Registered
Gaurav Sharma fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
During the preliminary investigation, Gaurav’s wife gave a statement to the police claiming that her husband does not own or carry any weapon, an assertion the authorities are actively verifying.
The Preet Vihar Police Station has registered a formal murder case under Sections 103(1), 115(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act. Multiple police teams have been deployed, and a massive manhunt is currently underway to trace and apprehend the absconding accused.
