Massive Category 6 Fire Engulfs Delhi Plastic Factory; 19 Fire Tenders Rushed to Narela

New Delhi, April 22, 2026 — A massive and rapidly spreading fire broke out at a three-storey shoe and plastic manufacturing unit in New Delhi’s Narela area on Wednesday morning, prompting a massive emergency response from the Delhi Fire Service.

The blaze, which erupted in the bustling Bhorgarh Industrial Area, was quickly escalated to a ‘Category 6’ fire, indicating extreme severity and a high risk of the flames spreading to neighboring structures.

Flames Fueled by Plastic and Chemical Goods

According to official reports, the fire started at approximately 8:45 AM. The three-storey facility housed massive quantities of highly flammable materials, including manufactured shoes, raw plastics, and industrial chemicals, which acted as intense fuel for the blaze.

Within minutes of the fire breaking out, thick, toxic plumes of black smoke were seen billowing into the sky, visible from several kilometers away and causing panic among neighboring industrial workers and local residents.

The Delhi Fire Service initially dispatched 15 fire tenders to the location. However, as the flames intensified and threatened to engulf adjacent manufacturing units, the deployment was rapidly increased to 19 fire tenders to bring the situation under control.

Evacuations and Rescue Operations

Acting swiftly to prevent loss of life, local authorities and police initiated immediate evacuation protocols.

The entire factory premises, along with nearby vulnerable structures, were evacuated. Heavy security cordons have been established around the Bhorgarh Industrial Area to keep crowds at bay and ensure that fire engines and water tankers have unobstructed access to the site.

As of the latest updates from the ground, firefighters are continuously battling the inferno from multiple angles to prevent structural collapse and contain the blaze from spreading horizontally.

Fortunately, authorities have confirmed that no casualties or injuries have been reported so far. All factory workers are believed to have escaped the building safely when the initial alarm was raised.

The exact cause of the fire remains unknown and is currently under investigation by the authorities. Further details are awaited as the firefighting and cooling operations continue.
