A Historic First at the Knesset
This marks PM Modi’s second visit to the country, following his landmark trip in 2017 that officially elevated India-Israel relations to a strategic partnership.
A major highlight of today’s itinerary is PM Modi’s scheduled speech at the Knesset later this evening. He will make history by becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to address the Israeli Parliament. The Knesset building was notably illuminated in the colours of the Indian tricolour in honour of his arrival.
Agenda: Defence, Tech, and Innovation
During the two-day visit, PM Modi and PM Netanyahu will hold comprehensive delegation-level talks. The discussions are expected to focus heavily on deepening the “robust and multifaceted Strategic Partnership” between the two nations. Key areas on the agenda include:
Defence and Security: Upgrading security agreements and exploring joint weapons development and technology transfers.
Technology and Innovation: Expanding cooperation in artificial intelligence, cyber security, and quantum computing.
Trade and Agriculture: Boosting the bilateral economic partnership, exploring a potential Free Trade Agreement, and advancing collaborations in water management and agricultural technology.
Engagements Beyond Bilateral Talks
In addition to his talks with PM Netanyahu, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to meet Israeli President Isaac Herzog to discuss shared democratic values and global geopolitical developments.
