Historic Visit: PM Modi Receives Red-Carpet Welcome in Tel Aviv; Set to Address the Israeli Parliament

Tel Aviv, February 25, 2026 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed at the Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv this afternoon, marking the beginning of a highly anticipated two-day state visit to Israel.

Underscoring the close personal rapport between the two leaders, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accompanied by his wife Sara Netanyahu, personally received PM Modi at the tarmac. The two leaders exchanged a warm embrace before PM Modi was accorded a grand ceremonial red-carpet welcome and a Guard of Honour.

Taking to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) shortly after landing, PM Modi expressed his gratitude, stating, “I am incredibly honoured to be received by Prime Minister Netanyahu and Mrs. Netanyahu. I look forward to engaging in bilateral discussions and fruitful outcomes that strengthen the India-Israel friendship.”

A Historic First at the Knesset

This marks PM Modi’s second visit to the country, following his landmark trip in 2017 that officially elevated India-Israel relations to a strategic partnership.

A major highlight of today’s itinerary is PM Modi’s scheduled speech at the Knesset later this evening. He will make history by becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to address the Israeli Parliament. The Knesset building was notably illuminated in the colours of the Indian tricolour in honour of his arrival.

Agenda: Defence, Tech, and Innovation

During the two-day visit, PM Modi and PM Netanyahu will hold comprehensive delegation-level talks. The discussions are expected to focus heavily on deepening the “robust and multifaceted Strategic Partnership” between the two nations. Key areas on the agenda include:

  • Defence and Security: Upgrading security agreements and exploring joint weapons development and technology transfers.

  • Technology and Innovation: Expanding cooperation in artificial intelligence, cyber security, and quantum computing.

  • Trade and Agriculture: Boosting the bilateral economic partnership, exploring a potential Free Trade Agreement, and advancing collaborations in water management and agricultural technology.

Engagements Beyond Bilateral Talks

In addition to his talks with PM Netanyahu, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to meet Israeli President Isaac Herzog to discuss shared democratic values and global geopolitical developments.

His itinerary in Jerusalem also includes a visit to the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial, participation in a high-tech innovation exhibition, and a special community event where he will interact with the vibrant Indian diaspora living in Israel.
