FSSAI Crackdown in Sikar: Over 670 Kg of Substandard Food Seized and Destroyed at Khatu Shyam Mela

Sikar, Rajasthan, February 25, 2026 — In a major enforcement drive aimed at protecting the health of lakhs of visiting devotees, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Rajasthan Food Safety Department have launched a massive crackdown on adulterated food at the ongoing Khatu Shyam Ji Fair in Sikar.

Following strict instructions from higher authorities, dedicated food safety teams have intensified their vigilance across the mela grounds. The goal is to ensure that no substandard or unhygienic food is served to the pilgrims attending the massive religious gathering.

During rigorous, on-the-spot inspections of various food stalls and storage units, officials uncovered alarming quantities of unsafe consumables.

Taking immediate action against the violators, the enforcement teams executed the following measures:

  • Massive Seizure: Officials confiscated a staggering 502 kg of pulses that failed to meet safety standards.

  • Food Destroyed: Approximately 175 kg of highly substandard food items were destroyed on the spot. This included expired pulses, heavily contaminated gravy, and stale traditional sweets like Mawa and Rabri, which are highly prone to bacterial growth.

  • Lab Testing: The department has formally collected 16 suspicious food samples, which have been sent to authorized laboratories for detailed chemical analysis.

The FSSAI shared details of the successful operation on its official social media handles, reiterating its zero-tolerance policy toward food adulteration. The department has warned vendors at the Khatu Shyam Mela of strict legal action if they are found compromising on food safety and hygiene.
