Cop Injured, 10 Detained After Heavy Stone-Pelting on Ambedkar Procession in Kasganj Village in UP
Kasganj (UP), April 14, 2026 — Tensions flared in a village within Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj district on Tuesday after a procession marking Ambedkar Jayanti was targeted with heavy stone-pelting. The sudden outbreak of violence left a police constable injured and resulted in the detention of at least 10 individuals.
The incident occurred in Chahka Gunar village, falling under the jurisdiction of the Sahawar police station, as a Shobha Yatra commemorating the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was passing through the area.
An Hour of Chaos and Roadblocks
According to local police and eyewitness accounts, the peaceful procession was suddenly disrupted when unidentified individuals allegedly began throwing stones at the participants.
The unprovoked attack quickly led to massive chaos and heightened tensions between two groups in the village. Locals reported that the intense stone-pelting lasted for nearly an hour. During the ensuing disturbance, some individuals escalated the situation by using tractor-trolleys to completely block the local roads, severely disrupting traffic in the vicinity.
A police constable deployed for the procession’s security sustained injuries after being struck by a stone during the melee, officials confirmed.
Heavy Police Deployment and Arrests
Upon receiving emergency information regarding the clash, District Magistrate Pranay Singh and Superintendent of Police (SP) Om Prakash Singh rushed to the scene accompanied by a heavy police contingent.
To bring the volatile situation under immediate control and disperse the aggressive crowd, the police were forced to employ mild force. Officials stated that approximately 10 individuals, including one woman, were immediately detained in connection with the violence.
“The situation is now under control. Adequate police forces have been deployed in the village,” a senior official assured the public.
District Magistrate Pranay Singh issued a stern warning to those involved in the unrest. “Nearly 10 people have been detained. Others involved are being identified through video footage, and strict legal action will be pursued. No one will be spared,” he declared.
A “Deliberate” Disruption?
Superintendent of Police OP Singh noted that while around 50 similar processions were being held peacefully across multiple police station areas in the district, this specific incident appeared premeditated.
He stated that the attack seemed to be a “deliberate attempt to disrupt the procession,” and a thorough probe is currently underway to ascertain the exact motive behind the violence. “Members of the Yadav community obstructed the procession. The political motivations behind this will become clear after the investigation,” SP Singh added.
Despite the tense atmosphere and initial violence, the Ambedkar Jayanti procession was eventually able to resume under heavy police supervision and concluded peacefully.
