3-Year-Old Among Five Injured in Massive House Fire Caused by Gas Leak Near Chamunda Temple
Rudrapur, April 15, 2026 — A devastating fire, allegedly triggered by a domestic gas leak, injured five members of a family—including a three-year-old child—in Rudrapur on Wednesday morning. The terrifying incident took place at a residence located in Ward No. 8, near the local Chamunda Temple.
All the victims sustained significant burn injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
The Incident and Rescue Operations
The fire broke out early Wednesday morning. According to preliminary reports, a gas leak inside the house sparked an intense blaze, trapping the family members inside.
An emergency call was placed to the Dial 112 helpline at approximately 8:00 AM. Responding swiftly to the distress signal, local police officials, aided by alert neighbors, rushed to the scene to conduct rescue operations. The injured victims were immediately evacuated and shifted to the district hospital for urgent medical attention.

Medical professionals at the district hospital confirmed that while the injuries are serious, all five patients are currently stable. “All patients are out of danger, though some have suffered burn injuries ranging from 15% to 40%. Treatment is ongoing,” a treating doctor stated.
The local fire department also responded to the incident. Fire Officer Mahesh Chand confirmed that the blaze was brought under control within a short period, preventing it from spreading to neighboring structures.
In light of the incident, Officer Chand issued a crucial safety advisory for the public. He strongly urged residents to immediately turn off their cylinder regulators if they suspect a gas leak. He also emphasized the importance of strictly avoiding the use of any electrical switches and ensuring proper cross-ventilation by opening doors and windows during such emergencies to prevent accidental ignitions.
