Alipurduar, West Bengal – In a targeted operation against drug trafficking, Birpara Police arrested a woman from Khudirampally in Birpara, Alipurduar district, and recovered 28 boxes containing 6,720 capsules of Pyeevon Spas Plus from her rented house on January 13, 2026.
The arrest was made based on secret intelligence, leading to a raid that uncovered the substantial cache of the controlled substance. The case has been registered as Birpara PS Case No. 211/25, dated December 19, 2025, under Sections 21(c), 25, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. These sections pertain to possession of psychotropic substances in commercial quantities, allowing premises to be used for such offenses, and abetment or conspiracy in narcotics crimes.
Pyeevon Spas Plus capsules, which contain a combination of tramadol (an opioid pain reliever), paracetamol, and dicyclomine, are regulated under the NDPS Act due to their high potential for abuse and addiction. Tramadol is classified as a psychotropic substance, and such formulations have been linked to widespread misuse as recreational drugs, prompting strict controls and bans on over-the-counter sales in India.
Birpara Police, in an official statement shared on social media, reaffirmed their commitment to protecting society from the perils of narcotics. “Birpara Police remains committed to protecting society,” the post noted, highlighting ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks in the region.
This seizure adds to a series of anti-drug operations in North Bengal, where Alipurduar and neighboring districts have seen increased vigilance against smuggling and distribution of banned pharmaceuticals. Similar raids in recent years have uncovered consignments of Spasmo Proxyvon and other opioid-based drugs, often sourced from across state borders.
The accused, whose identity has not been fully disclosed pending investigation, is in custody. Authorities are probing potential links to larger trafficking rings. Further details on the case are awaited as the investigation progresses.
Local residents have welcomed the action, expressing concerns over the rising availability of such substances in rural areas.
