“Cruel Injustice”: Tea Garden Student Denied Exam Entry Over Name Mix-Up; Future at Stake?

Alipurduar, West Bengal – Darjeeling MP Raju Bista highlighted a distressing incident where a meritorious student from Shree Ganesh Vidhyalaya Hindi Higher Secondary School in Dalsingpara Tea Garden was barred from appearing for her first Madhyamik examination, calling it a “shameful” reflection of the collapse in West Bengal’s education system.

A video circulating on social media since Monday morning shows the young girl crying outside her exam center, unable to enter due to the lack of an admit card. According to reports, the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) failed to issue her card because the school has two students with the same name, leading to administrative confusion.

In a tweet, Bista expressed outrage and heartbreak, stating, “This is not a minor administrative lapse; it is a cruel injustice against our children from Tea Gardens, that reflects years of neglect and institutional decay under TMC.” He alleged that school officials showed indifference instead of resolving the issue promptly, jeopardizing the girl’s future.

Bista demanded immediate corrective action, including special arrangements for the student to appear in the exam without losing an academic year. He also called for strict disciplinary and legal measures against those responsible at the school and WBBSE for their negligence.

The MP linked the incident to broader issues under the Trinamool Congress (TMC) rule, such as teacher recruitment scams and administrative apathy, urging parents, educators, and citizens to demand systemic reforms. “We should not allow the WB government apathy to destroy the future of our children from North Bengal anymore,” he added.

The video has sparked widespread concern on social media, with users questioning the education system’s efficiency during crucial board exams. WBBSE officials have not yet responded to the allegations, and an investigation into the matter is expected.

This event comes amid the ongoing Madhyamik examinations, which began on February 2, 2026, and highlights challenges in remote areas like tea gardens in Alipurduar district. Local authorities are urged to address such lapses to ensure no student faces similar hardships.
