Jalpaiguri, West Bengal – Jalpaiguri District Police have arrested three individuals in connection with an attempted theft at the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Binnaguri, preventing a potential crime and recovering incriminating items during the investigation.
The incident occurred on January 12, 2026, around 3:00 AM, when unidentified persons tried to break into the bank. The branch manager reported the attempt the following day, January 13, leading to the registration of Banarhat Police Station Case No. 07/26 under Sections 303(2) and 62 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to theft and related offenses.
Utilizing CCTV footage from the premises, investigators quickly identified the three accused and apprehended them. Based on statements from the suspects, police seized several items, including one Alto car (registration WB74R 3707), pliers and a screwdriver (likely used as tools for the break-in), three SBI passbooks, and two ATM cards.
In an official statement shared on social media, Jalpaiguri District Police highlighted the prompt action that averted the theft and ensured the bank’s security. “Investigation is ongoing,” the post noted, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining law and order.
