Siliguri, West Bengal – A courageous sixth-grade student successfully foiled an abduction attempt near her school in the Pradhan Nagar area of Siliguri. Police have arrested two individuals, including a woman, in connection with the incident that has sparked concern among local parents and residents.

The attempted abduction took place after school hours while the student was walking home. According to police sources, the two accused—identified as Maya Ghosh, a resident of Gulma, and Abhijit Sutradhar from Champasari—approached the young girl on a scooty near the school gate.

The duo initially attempted to gain the girl’s trust by engaging her in conversation. When that failed, they allegedly tried to force her onto their two-wheeler, claiming they would take her home.

The minor showed remarkable alertness and resisted the attempt. When the suspects tried a second time to grab her, she screamed for help. Her cries alerted nearby shopkeepers and local residents, who immediately rushed to the scene.

The witnesses secured the girl and informed the Pradhan Nagar Police, who arrived promptly to take the two suspects into custody.

Following the incident, the victim’s mother filed a formal written complaint at the Pradhan Nagar Police Station. A case has been registered, and the police are currently investigating the motive behind the abduction attempt and whether the duo is linked to any larger human trafficking networks.

The two accused were produced before the Siliguri Court on Friday, January 16.
