Siliguri, West Bengal – Two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers were allegedly assaulted for chanting “Jai Shri Ram” during a Trinamool Congress (TMC) rally in the Dabgram-Fulbari area of Siliguri on Sunday evening, sparking tension in the locality.
The incident reportedly took place near Bhavesh More while the TMC rally was in progress. According to reports, the two young men raised the slogan, leading to them being beaten and injured, after which they collapsed at the spot. Dabgram-Fulbari MLA Shikha Chatterjee visited the Ashighar police outpost to file a complaint and demanded strict legal action against the perpetrators.
Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb, a TMC leader, responded to the allegations by distancing the rally from the incident. He told the media, “In that rally there were 8000 to 10000 people if two people chants ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and then mob attacks them will those two men be unharmed there were so many people watching our rally from road maybe they have protested their chant. With that incident and our rally there is no relation at all.”
The event has raised concerns over political tensions in the region, especially amid ongoing preparations for upcoming elections. Police have not yet released an official statement on the matter.
