Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony for Rangapani Rail Over Bridge Announced: Central Govt Funds ₹69.79 Crore Project

Siliguri, West Bengal – Darjeeling MP Raju Bista has announced the upcoming bhumi pujan and foundation stone laying ceremony for the much-awaited Rangapani Rail Over Bridge (ROB), a project fully funded by the Central Government to the tune of ₹69.79 crores. The event, set for tomorrow, marks a significant step toward easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity in the region.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Bista credited the blessings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for making the project possible. “The Central Government is providing 100% funding for this much needed project,” he stated, inviting residents from Rangapani and surrounding areas to join the auspicious occasion.

The ceremony will take place on January 7, 2026 (Wednesday), at 10:30 AM at the Railway Crossing, specifically at Level Crossing No. NC-5 under the Railway. The ROB is expected to serve as a vital infrastructure link, benefiting commuters traveling between various regions by eliminating delays at the busy railway crossing.

This development comes amid ongoing efforts to enhance rail and road infrastructure in North Bengal. Earlier announcements highlighted the bridge’s importance in alleviating long-standing issues faced by locals due to frequent train passages. The project aligns with broader railway initiatives, including the foundation stones for multiple underpasses and overbridges in the Northeast Frontier Railway zone, as noted in recent annual reports.

Bista, who serves as the National Spokesperson for BJP and National General Secretary of BJYM, expressed enthusiasm for the event, looking forward to community participation. The invitation, shared via social media, features details in multiple languages, underscoring the project’s regional significance.

As North Bengal continues to see infrastructure boosts, this ROB is poised to reduce accidents and improve daily commutes for thousands. Local residents have long advocated for such developments, and tomorrow’s ceremony represents a key milestone.
