Siliguri, West Bengal – In a significant development for regional rail connectivity, several major trains have been approved for new halts at stations in the Siliguri Corridor, addressing long-standing demands for improved access in North Bengal.

The approvals, aimed at enhancing travel options for local commuters, students, and daily passengers, include stoppages at Naxalbari, Bagdogra, Batasi, and Adhikari railway stations. This move is expected to ease travel, improve linkages, and foster socio-economic opportunities across the Darjeeling Hills and Terai regions.

The new stoppages are as follows:

  • At Naxalbari Railway Station: Train No. 15483/15484 Alipurduar-Delhi Express
  • At Bagdogra Railway Station: Train No. 15721/15722 Digha-New Jalpaiguri Express
  • At Batasi Railway Station: Train No. 75705/75706 Radhikapur-Siliguri Express
  • At Adhikari Railway Station: Train No. 15463/15464 Balurghat-Siliguri Express and Train No. 75705/75706 Radhikapur-Siliguri Express

The Siliguri Corridor, a vital national linkage, has seen concentrated efforts to upgrade railway services, with these halts responding directly to public needs. Darjeeling MP Raju Bista shared the announcement on social media, expressing gratitude to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and the North East Frontier Railway for their support.

“These new halts will greatly benefit local commuters, students, daily passengers, and the wider region,” Bista noted. “It will further improve connectivity, ease travel, and boost socio-economic opportunities for people in the entire Darjeeling Hills and Terai region.”

This initiative comes amid broader railway developments in the area, including the ongoing Amrit Bharat redevelopment of New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Station, inspected by Minister Vaishnaw earlier today. Local residents and travelers have welcomed the news, anticipating reduced dependency on road transport and better access to long-distance routes.
