Siliguri, West Bengal – Siliguri Metropolitan Police has announced detailed vehicular restrictions and diversions across the Commissionerate area to ensure public safety and smooth passage during the two-day visit of Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee on January 16 and 17, 2026.
The measures, issued under separate notifications dated January 14, 2026, by Commissioner of Police I.C. Sudhakar, invoke powers under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, to regulate heavy and medium goods vehicles, buses, and other traffic in key locations.
Restrictions on January 16, 2026 (8:00 AM to 9:00 PM)
Heavy and medium goods vehicles will be restricted/held at the following points from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM:

Bhaktinagar Checkpost
IOC/Netaji More
Sukna TCP More
Regulated Market
Specific road restrictions for goods vehicles:
No goods vehicles allowed from Khanna Hotel to Check Post More via City Centre.
No goods vehicles allowed from Murder More to Phansidewa Under Bypass.
No goods vehicles allowed from Regulated Market to Matigara side.
Diversions for buses and local city buses (11:00 AM to 8:00 PM):
Buses plying from Siliguri to Kolkata/Bihar side will be diverted through Airview More–Naukaghat via Sevoke Mandir and vice versa.
Local buses for Panitanki/Kharibari/Bagdogra/Bidhannagar will be diverted through Airview More–Naukaghat via Sevoke Mandir and vice versa.
Restrictions on January 17, 2026 (6:00 AM to 9:00 PM)
Heavy and medium goods vehicles will face extended restrictions/holding points from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM at the same locations:

No goods vehicles allowed from Check Post More (Eastern Bypass) to Gandar More via Nawapara.
Exemptions (Applicable on Both Days)
The following vehicles are exempt from restrictions:
Goods vehicles carrying perishable goods and milk
Goods vehicles loaded with LPG cylinders
Army goods vehicles/trucks
Ambulances and emergency vehicles
Authorities have noted that timings may be adjusted on short notice depending on crowd situations in the town. Commuters are advised to plan alternate routes, avoid restricted zones where possible, and cooperate with traffic personnel deployed across the city.
