Tragedy in Siliguri Ward 1: Teenage Boy Killed by Dumper Truck

Siliguri, West Bengal – A tragic accident claimed the life of an unidentified teenage boy today in Ward Number 1 of Siliguri, after he was struck by a dumper truck bearing registration number WB73 E9469 in a restricted municipal area. The incident has sparked concerns over road safety and violations of daytime heavy vehicle restrictions.

According to eyewitness accounts, the boy was hit by the speeding dumper truck during daylight hours, when such vehicles are prohibited from operating within city limits under “no entry” rules. Locals rushed the injured boy to the district hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Pradhan Nagar Police responded swiftly, arresting the truck driver at the scene and seizing the vehicle (registration WB73 E9469) for further investigation. The boy’s identity remains unknown, with efforts underway to trace his family or background.

Ward Councillor Sanjay Pathak visited the site and spoke to the media, expressing grief over the loss. “The boy has not been identified yet; we are trying to gather information about him,” Pathak said. He also blamed the Railway administration for the poor condition of the road, alleging that they allow heavy vehicles to ply frequently, causing damage every six months despite repeated complaints. “They don’t listen to us,” he added, calling for urgent repairs and stricter enforcement.

This incident highlights ongoing issues with illegal daytime truck operations and road maintenance in Siliguri’s urban wards. Police are investigating the circumstances, including potential negligence by the driver.
