Beyond the Scorecard: How Google’s New ‘AI Mode’ Will Transform Your IPL Viewing Experience

New Delhi, March 27, 2026 — As the countdown to the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 draws to a close, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled a massive technological upgrade for the tournament. The BCCI has officially partnered with Google India, naming “Google Search AI Mode” as an Official Premier Partner for the upcoming season.

This landmark collaboration is set to completely redefine fan engagement, moving away from traditional static scorecards and standard commentary by integrating conversational artificial intelligence directly into the IPL viewing experience.

A First for Live Cricket Broadcasting

According to the official announcement, the IPL 2026 season will mark the first time that a live cricket broadcast is integrated with AI-powered analysis. The initiative aims to provide viewers with real-time, deep tactical insights and a highly interactive way to experience the matches.

Through the new “AI Mode” embedded in Google Search, fans will be able to engage in conversational queries about the game as the action unfolds on their screens.

Instead of just checking the score, fans can ask Google complex, context-heavy questions, such as:

  • “What makes Jasprit Bumrah the best bowler during the high-pressure overs?”

  • “How does Abhishek Sharma bat so fearlessly while opening the innings?”

Furthermore, the AI Mode will enable users to dive into historical data. Fans can ask the AI to compare complex captaincy strategies—like analyzing whether MS Dhoni or Rohit Sharma’s tactics were more effective in high-pressure playoff matches—or request AI-curated summaries of the best catches from past encounters.

Connecting the “Active Experts”

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia expressed strong enthusiasm for the technological leap. “IPL has always been the heartbeat of Indian Cricket, and this collaboration with Google India to integrate AI Mode into Search will fundamentally transform the fan experience,” Saikia stated. “We are thrilled to empower our millions of passionate fans with enriched and conversational insights, deepening their connection to the game they love.”

Google India also highlighted the massive digital footprint of the IPL, noting that the tournament has consistently dominated India’s ‘Year in Search’ sports trends since 2020.

Shekar Khosla, VP Marketing at Google India, pointed out that Indian cricket fans are “active experts” rather than passive viewers. “They are looking for deeper insights and stories that help them celebrate their teams both on and off the pitch. With AI Mode in Search, we’re excited to help fans stay connected to the game’s pulse like never before,” Khosla said.

Beyond the Boundary

The partnership’s AI features will extend off the pitch as well. The enhanced search capabilities are designed to help fans plan their IPL match days, whether that involves finding a local sports cafe with a big screen for a watch party or researching the elite fitness and dietary routines of their favorite cricketers.

In addition to securing the Official Premier Partner status, Google has also acquired the co-presenting sponsor title for IPL 2026 across both television and digital broadcasts in an exclusive deal with JioStar.

With the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru set to face Sunrisers Hyderabad in the blockbuster opening match on March 28, fans won’t have to wait long to test out this revolutionary AI cricket companion.
