Kanpur, April 18, 2026: In a heartbreaking incident highlighting the immense pressure students face over academic performance, a 16-year-old girl in Kanpur died by suicide after the declaration of the CBSE Class 10 board results.
Despite securing an impressive 92% in her board exams, the student, identified as Vaishali Singh, was reportedly deeply disappointed as she had expected to score above 95%.
Vaishali was a student at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Armapur, Kanpur. According to her family, she was a bright student but fell into a state of severe depression after her results were announced, feeling that she had fallen short of her own high expectations.
“I Have Become a Living Corpse”
Before taking the extreme step, Vaishali sent a chilling and emotional voice note to some of her friends. In the recording, the distressed teenager expressed her hopelessness and fear of letting her mother down.
“I cannot live anymore. I have become a living corpse. I have no desire to live now. I am very scared. My mother is spending so much money on my education. What if her money gets wasted?” Vaishali said in the heart-wrenching audio message.
A Family Shattered
The tragedy has left Vaishali’s family completely shattered. Her father, Virendra Singh, passed away two years ago. Since then, her mother, Kajal, has been the sole breadwinner, working at a local mall to support Vaishali and her 19-year-old brother, Prince, who had dropped out of school a few years ago.
The incident came to light on Thursday when Kajal was at work. She tried calling Vaishali multiple times between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM, but her calls went unanswered. Concerned, she called Prince, who was at home, and asked him to check on his sister. When Prince entered Vaishali’s room, he found her hanging from the ceiling fan and screamed for help.
Mother Alleges Pressure from School
A devastated Kajal has alleged that teachers at her daughter’s school put immense academic pressure on her, which drove her to study day and night. The mother claimed that this relentless pressure to excel took a severe toll on the young girl’s mental health.
Local police have reached the spot and seized Vaishali’s mobile phone to analyze the voice notes and messages sent before her death. The body has been sent for a post-mortem, and further investigation into the matter is underway.
