Kolkata, April 19, 2026 — With the West Bengal assembly elections fast approaching, the political battlefield is witnessing a massive influx of new participants. The Election Commission of India has released fresh figures on voter enrollment, revealing that nearly five lakh new voters have been successfully added to the state’s electoral rolls between the publication of the draft list and the close of nominations.

The Enrollment Surge

According to official sources within the Election Commission, the state witnessed a massive registration drive, with approximately seven lakh applications submitted through Form-6. Following a rigorous verification process, eligible citizens were officially integrated into the voter list.

The final electoral roll, initially released on February 28, saw the inclusion of 1,88,207 new voters. However, the momentum carried over into the following month, during which an additional five lakh names were verified and added to the database.

North 24 Parganas and Kolkata Lead the Tally

District-level enrollment data highlights intense political mobilization in specific pockets of the state. The highest spikes in new voter registrations were recorded in the districts of North 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, Kolkata, and East Midnapore.

North 24 Parganas emerged at the top of the chart, adding over 71,000 new voters to its rolls. The capital city, Kolkata, followed closely with an impressive addition of nearly 44,000 new voters.

A Concerning Trend: Decline in Female Voters

While the overall voter base has expanded significantly, the Election Commission’s figures have brought a concerning demographic trend to light. Despite the massive surge in total enrollments, the comparative number of female voters has reportedly witnessed a decline.

Following the latest additions, West Bengal’s total registered voter count now stands at a staggering 6,82,51,008 (Over 6.82 Crore).

The demographic breakdown is as follows:

  • Male Voters: Over 3,49,00,000

  • Female Voters: Over 3,33,00,000

  • Third Gender Voters: 1,257

While the rolls have been updated for the upcoming polls, Commission sources indicated that the final numbers could still see a marginal rise once a few pending tribunal cases regarding voter eligibility are officially resolved.
