Tied to a Chair and Set Ablaze: 27-Year-Old Woman Arrested for Gruesome Murder of Lover
Bengaluru, April 22, 2026 — In a chilling and premeditated act of violence, a 27-year-old woman in Bengaluru brutally murdered her boyfriend by burning him alive inside her residence. The accused, identified as Prerna, lured the victim under the guise of a romantic “western-style proposal” before tying him to a chair, dousing him in fuel, and setting him on fire.
The horrific incident took place in the Anjananagar area on Tuesday afternoon, sending shockwaves through the city. The Byadarahalli Police have arrested the woman and seized crucial evidence, including a horrifying video of the crime recorded on her own mobile phone.
A Lethal Pretext
The victim, 27-year-old Kiran, and the accused had been in a relationship for nearly two years. The couple worked together at a telecom retail store in Rajajinagar.
According to investigating officers, Prerna invited Kiran to her house around 2:00 PM when she was alone. Once he arrived, she told him she wanted to surprise him with a “western-style proposal” where the partner proposes on one knee. Under this pretext, she convinced Kiran to let her blindfold him.
Taking the deception further, she tied his hands and legs securely to a chair with ropes. When Kiran questioned the tight restraints, Prerna reassured him, claiming it was part of a popular new trend abroad. Once he was completely immobilized and helpless, investigators report that she removed his clothes, distracted him, and then poured petrol and kerosene—which she had secretly procured in advance—over his body before striking a match.
Kiran sustained severe, instantaneous burns and died on the spot.
Failed Cover-Up and Arrest
In a disturbing twist, the police revealed that Prerna recorded the entire agonizing execution on her mobile phone.
When authorities initially arrived at the scene, Prerna attempted to mislead them. She claimed that she was inside the bathroom when she heard a loud commotion, only to emerge and find that Kiran had set himself on fire.
However, her story quickly unraveled. “At first glance, it appeared to be a case of suicide, but the investigation confirmed it was murder,” stated Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) D.L. Nagesh. Officers grew highly suspicious after examining the restraints and the crime scene. Further inquiries confirmed that Kiran had arrived on his bike carrying only a small bag and no flammable materials, whereas Prerna had arranged the fuel beforehand.
The Motive Behind the Murder
Preliminary investigations indicate that the relationship between the two had soured in recent months. The couple was having frequent, intense disputes, with Prerna harboring deep resentment because she believed Kiran was deliberately avoiding and ignoring her.
A formal case of murder has been registered at the Byadarahalli Police Station. While the primary motive appears to be revenge stemming from their strained relationship, police are continuing their probe to rule out the involvement of any accomplices in planning or executing the crime.
