Doctors Confirm Permanent Blindness for 13-Year-Old Attacked by Relatives in Nalanda
Nalanda (Bihar), April 19, 2026 — In a spine-chilling incident that exposes the brutal extremes of family disputes, a 13-year-old boy was permanently blinded by his own uncle and aunt in a calculated act of revenge in Bihar’s Nalanda district.
The horrific crime took place in the Lohra Musahari Tola area under the Harnaut police station limits. The victim, identified as 8th-grade student Sunny Kumar, has tragically lost his vision entirely after being mercilessly attacked while he was asleep.
A Playground Scuffle Turns Tragic
According to the local police, the gruesome attack was rooted in a minor altercation between children that occurred about ten days prior.
Sunny, the eldest of four siblings and the son of a hotel worker named Shravan Tanti, was playing with other children in the neighborhood. During the play, Sunny threw a piece of concrete that accidentally struck his cousin, Sahil, in the eye.
Following the accidental injury, a village panchayat (local council) was convened. The elders mediated a settlement where Sunny’s family agreed to cover all medical expenses for Sahil’s treatment. However, despite the financial settlement, the animosity festered within Sahil’s family.
The Brutal Attack in the Dark
The simmering anger culminated in a horrifying act of vengeance on April 17. While young Sunny was sleeping alone in his house, his uncle, aunt, and a cousin sister reportedly ambushed him. The attackers brutally assaulted the 13-year-old, deliberately targeting and destroying both of his eyes before fleeing the scene.
A severely injured and bleeding Sunny was initially rushed by his panicked family to the Biharsharif Model Hospital. Seeing his critical condition, doctors immediately referred him to higher medical facilities in Patna. Tragically, after a thorough examination in Patna, medical experts delivered the devastating news to the family: the damage was irreversible, and Sunny’s eyesight would never return.
Police Action and Arrests
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, prompting swift police intervention. Harnaut Station House Officer (SHO) Mukesh Kumar Verma arrived at the scene with a team to pacify the outraged villagers and initiate a probe.
“We have arrested the main accused, the boy’s uncle Manoj Tanti,” SHO Verma stated to the press.
The police have registered First Information Reports (FIRs) from both sides, naming a total of ten individuals—four from one faction and six from the other. A massive manhunt is currently underway to apprehend the remaining accused family members who are absconding.
