UPFDA Raids Illegal Tea Warehouse in Lucknow, Seizes 850 kg Adulterated Tea

Lucknow, February 23, 2026 – In a major crackdown on food adulteration, the Uttar Pradesh Food and Drug Administration (UPFDA) raided an illegal tea warehouse in Lucknow and seized approximately 8.5 quintals (850 kg) of adulterated tea leaves.

The warehouse was operating without any valid FSSAI license or other mandatory permissions. Officials described the raid as a strong action against food adulteration and illegal trade practices.

The FSSAI shared details of the operation on its official X handle, highlighting it as part of intensified enforcement drives across states under the #FSSAIinStates initiative.

This latest seizure underscores the Uttar Pradesh government’s and FSSAI’s continued efforts to crack down on unlicensed and unsafe food storage and distribution units, especially in the tea trade, which is prone to adulteration with inferior leaves, dyes, and other harmful substances.

Further investigation is underway to trace the source and supply chain of the seized adulterated tea. Legal action has been initiated against the owners of the warehouse under the Food Safety and Standards Act.

This is the latest in a series of raids by UPFDA in Lucknow and other parts of the state to ensure food safety compliance.
