Five Injured After Security Guard’s Gun Accidentally Fires at Bank

PHANSIDEWA, West Bengal – Five people, including a teenage girl, were injured on Tuesday when a security guard’s gun went off by accident inside a bank in Bidhannagar.

The incident occurred around midday while the bank was busy with customers. According to reports, the security guard, identified as Manik Roy, dropped his gun. When the weapon hit the floor, it fired bullets that struck five people in the legs.

The injured include Mary Nag (37), Mohammad Nurul Haque (35), Sanjita Pradhan (41), Biplab Singh (30), and a 14-year-old girl named Sonali Nag.

All five were first taken to a local health center and then to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. Later, they were moved to a private hospital in Siliguri for better treatment. Doctors have confirmed that while the injuries are serious, none are life-threatening.

The sudden gunfire caused panic among customers, who rushed out of the building. Police from the Bidhannagar Investigation Centre arrived quickly at the scene. They have detained Manik Roy and seized his weapon.

Officers are currently questioning the guard to confirm exactly how the accident happened. The incident has raised concerns about safety protocols for armed guards in public places.
